NUCLEAR WASTE HIISTORY IN NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO

This post highlights Environment North's involvement prior to the year 2020.  For more recent posts see the Nuclear Issue category or the visit Nuclear News.

Environment North has been involved in the issue of disposal of nuclear waste since the 1970s. We do not support nuclear energy. Two main reasons are the high cost and the creation of nuclear waste for which there is no acceptable permanent long-term solution at this time.

Nuclear energy has been and continues to be one of the most costly forms of energy.  In order to address the current climate emergency, low carbon energy sources that can be deployed most quickly at the least cost are needed. More renewable energy with storage is more cost effective than nuclear and can come online much more quickly.

Much of Environment North's historic record is stored off-line.  A summary of main events prior to 2010 is found in  "A Brief History of Nuclear Waste  Issue in Northwestern Ontario" article below.  For additional information please contact us.
