Here are some excerpts from the letter:
"Resource extraction activities are rapidly increasing in this area and are close to wetlands and the inland freshwater systems of lakes and rivers that drain into Lake Superior which is part of the Federal Governments’ Great Lakes Protection Initiative. They are also close to private properties, local roads and secondary highways."
"Decisions regarding resource extraction pose high risk to communities and the natural environment... In addition, there are additional pits being proposed in this same vicinity following on the heels of recent forestry activity yet there is no consideration for the cumulative impacts of these activities on the natural environment, species at risk, hydrology, health and safety and other social concerns. Long term and/or irreversible social and environmental impacts can result."
