"Environmental Justice and Nuclear Energy" with Kerrie Blaise (minute 1:40)
Kerrie Blaise's presentation focussed on the principals of environmental justice such as the right to participate and the right to know and the regulation of the nuclear industry. Our current laws do not sufficiently take into consideration intergenerational equity issues or population-wide impacts. It is an important time in determining the future of how to manage Canada's radioactive waste. This presentation helps to guide our efforts in finding a just path and in shaping public policy.
"Still Hopeful" with Maude Barlow (minute 20:19)
Canadian author and activist, Maude Barlow spoke from the heart. As the title of her latest book suggests she is still hopeful after a lifetime of activism. She shares her definition of hopeful and a number of lessons including the importance of building a movement and that change can happen. Many participants relayed that after Maude Barlow's presentation they felt inspired and yes, felt hopeful.
