The Award Program

The Ilkka T. Ovaska Award for Social Responsibility sponsored by BAY Credit Union recognizes a member of our community who has demonstrated exemplary achievements in promoting social responsibility in our community."

Over the past several years Dodie has been the lead for Environment North on the nuclear waste issue. She is dedicated to making the public aware of the risks associated with nuclear waste transport and disposal.  The Revell Lake area between Dryden and Ignace is one of two potential sites for the permanent disposal of spent nuclear fuel waste. The high-level radioactive waste would be transported mostly southern Ontario.  Shipments would occur most days over decades. Dodie has participated in countless meetings and presentations, written numerous articles, has met with many concerned citizens and stakeholders, and MORE.  To learn about Environment North's campaign visit the Environment North home page and follow the links or visit  www.wethenuclearfreenorth.ca.
