Comments regarding the Electricity Supply Mix Directive
Environment North has written comments to the Ontario Ministry of Energy regarding the future sources of electrical power in Ontario. Environment North opposes the construction of new nuclear facilities at the Darlington Nuclear Power Plant (EBR: 011-1701).
The full fuel cycle of nuclear energy is not "green". Nuclear energy produces many toxic emissions, especially during the mining stages, and produces toxic radioactive waste fuel which must be isolated from the environment for 250,000 years. The construction of new facilities also will result in the production greenhouse gases at this critical time of climate change.
