Black Bay Five Mile Creek Crossing Update

EN Board Members participated in a Zoom meeting along with other interested groups to discuss concerns with the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) and Green Mantle Forest Inc regarding a road crossing enhancement at Five Mile Creek on the Black Bay Five Mile Creek Crossing.   These enhancements threaten to increase access to the Black Bay Peninsula. Roads and public access are to be limited to maintain the remote nature of the peninsula and minimize negative impacts to the ecology of the area. The meeting did not provide sufficient answers to a number of questions. MNR staff offered to provide answers at a follow-up meeting and the concerned groups sent a letter with 8 questions.

A main question is how will the "MNR ensure that the current remote nature of the peninsula is maintained over the short and long term, as outlined in the original EMA land use intent developed during Ontario’s Living Legacy Land Use Strategy (1999), and as required by the EMA Strategy?"
