Nuclear Waste and the Common Good

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) wines and dines our job-starved northern community town councils in its quest to find "a willing host" for a deep geologic nuclear high-level waste (HLW) repository. I was encouraged to learn that the township of Saugeen Shores, adjacent to the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station is showing an interest in hosting such a storage facility.

Nuclear Decisions
The 9.0 (Richter scale) earthquake and tsunami on March 11 in Japan set off nuclear problems by disrupting power to cooling systems at the Fukushima plant. Comments regarding the Electricity Supply Mix Directive

Three decades ago, nuclear waste disposal was a hot topic Northwestern Ontario. Test drilling was underway in Atikokan, with support by some local businesses but major opposition was expressed by people in Atikokan and other communities along proposed transportation routes.
