Peat Extraction and as an Energy Source
Environment North has signed onto a letter to the Provincial Minister of Natural Resources and to the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure which represents the concerns of 14 environmental organisations. Given that peatland has a significant role in boreal ecosystems, we believe that the extraction and use of peat as an alternative fuel source is incompatible with the government's intent to conserve biodiversity and address climate change.
